Two office buildings owned by Varma – Panorama Tower in Leppävaara, Espoo, and the office building located at Itälahdenkatu 22 in Lauttasaari, Helsinki – have been granted the BREEAM In-Use environmental certification.
Panorama Tower received the rating of 'very good' and Itälahdenkatu 22 the rating of 'good' in the assessment.
BREEAM* is an environmental rating system for buildings and building projects to assess the sustainability of buildings using harmonised methods. The assessment covers areas such as energy efficiency systems, waste sorting and recycling opportunities and location, i.e. whether the building is situated along good public transit routes and how cycling is encouraged in the space solutions, for example.
"We believe that an increasing number of customers will look for sustainable, environmentally rated premises in the near future. The certification also supports us in developing the best sustainable real estate practices," says Varma's Ilkka Tomperi, Director, Real Estate Investments.
"The certified office buildings will serve as pilots. Our goal is to also certify some of Varma's other most significant buildings in future," says Tomperi.
