Focus on growth companies in Varma magazine
This year’s first issue of Varma magazine takes a look at the success factors behind thriving SMEs and at Finland’s rising business sectors. Did you know that health technology is Finland’s biggest high-tech export? And that tourism in Lapland is growing at an impressive pace? Even in the area of sanitary facilities, there is opportunity for growth, beyond simply saving water, as the entrepreneurs behind the company Novosan have proven.
The entrepreneurs featured in Varma magazine share their experiences and offer readers some great advice. Noora Hautakangas, the founder of Relove, a café and flea market located in Helsinki’s Töölö district, has learned a lot from more experienced entrepreneurs. She, just like Inga and Marko Jääskö, who run Napapiirin Lahja in Rovaniemi, listen closely to their customers and their staff. They are quick to embrace their customers’ wishes and their employees’ development ideas.
Visualist Annika Varjonen was a solopreneur for many years. Nowadays she is a partner in a consulting firm. In this issue, she compares these two forms of entrepreneurship.
The work community and mentors offer many benefits to everyone, not least of which solo- and micro-entrepreneurs. Varma magazine also delves into a number of other issues that are very important for entrepreneurs.
An entrepreneur’s networking efforts can be stepped up by working at least part of the time in coworking spaces. A recent study revealed the benefits of such spaces. More and more entrepreneurs from different fields are finding their way to the VarmaWorks coworking space in the centre of Tampere.
The magazine once again contains a wealth of information on the practical impacts of Finland’s pension reform, on entrepreneurs’ pension contributions and on maintaining one’s workability. The increase for deferred retirement encourages entrepreneurs and employees to remain in working life longer – we provide some examples to show the extent of the benefits. All entrepreneurs essentially face the same workability challenges, and in this issue we give different types of entrepreneurs the best tips for looking after their workability.
The Finnish version of the magazine, Varma 1/2017, will be mailed to Varma’s entrepreneur customers. The magazine can also be read in digital format in Finnish, Swedish and English at varmalehti.fi, where you can also find previous issues.
