How is a work trial agreement made?
Once a planned work trial has been approved by Varma, we will send your employer’s contact person an agreement that states, e.g., the time frame of the work trial, work arrangements and possible wage/salary payments during the work trial. Once you have signed the agreement and the work trial has begun, your employer will return the agreement to Varma.
What will my income be during my work trial?
- If your employer does not pay you salary or wages during your work trial (unpaid work trial), Varma will pay you a rehabilitation allowance. We will take out accident insurance for you for the duration of your work trial. You can also receive compensation for commuting expenses between your home and workplace. - If your employer pays you wages or salary (paid work trial), the pay must correspond to full-time work, regardless of the amount of your working hours. Varma pays the rehabilitation allowance to your employer. If the rehabilitation allowance is larger than your salary or wages, we will pay you the difference. In the case of paid work trials, commuting expenses are not compensated.
Can I take a holiday during my work trial?
We do not recommend taking a holiday during your work trial, as the purpose is to determine how you cope at work. We recommend postponing any holidays until after the work trial. If you must take a holiday during your work trial, Varma must be notified of the dates of your holiday already before the work trial begins. Rehabilitation benefits are not paid during holidays.
What if I fall ill or the work trial is interrupted?
You do not need to notify Varma of a brief period, i.e. a few days, of sick leave. If your sick leave lasts longer than a week or if your work trial is interrupted for some other reason, please contact Varma’s rehabilitation specialist. Send your sick leave certificate or doctor’s statement to Varma.
How do I apply for an extension of my work trial?
A work trial can be extended on reasonable grounds from one to three months. Send Varma a memo on your occupational health negotiation or a statement from your doctor describing how your work trial is going and what your follow-up plan is.
